The 7th European Summer University for young managers of arthouse cinemas organized by CICAE (International Confederation of Art house Cinema) and FICE (Italian Federation of arthouse cinemas) is starting today, Wednesday 31st on the island of San Servolo.

Shot on location in New York City, NY Export: Opus Jazz takes Jerome Robbins‘ 1958 “ballet in sneakers” and re-imagines it for a new generation in this feature-length scripted adaptation. Starring an ensemble cast of New York City Ballet dancers and photographed on 35mm, NY Export: Opus Jazz won an Audience Award at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival, aired nationally on PBS’ Great Performances series and is the only US production nominated for a 2010 Rose D'Or in the Arts category.

The 7th European Summer University for young managers of arthouse cinemas will take place on the campus-island of San Servolo, during the Mostra del Cinema (Venice International Film Festival). This seminar is organized within the framework of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

The CICAE, gathering its members in a General Assembly in Cannes on May 13th, publicized its position as regards the digital transition in the cinematographic industry.

The Cine Sin Fronteras consortium, comprising the CICAE, the ARCALT, the FICV and Europa Distribution, held a press conference to present the training and its first results on May 16th 2010 in the Pavillion des Cinémas du Monde, in the framework of the 63rd Cannes International Film festival.

The Independent Cinema Office organizes a training course for staff of European cinemas and film festivals

 DISCOVERING……REFLECTING……LEARNING……EXCHANGING……NETWORKING……MAKING HEADWAY…...

In the middle of September 2009 a new arthouse cinema in Vilnius, Lithuania, will be opened.

It is the first private initiative in the country to screen arthouse films, there will be 2 screens (155 and 85).

We have collected most of the required equipment and seats from the cinemas that have closed recently, however some items are still missing.

In the framework of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival (13th - 24th May 2009), the Europa Cinemas exhibitors meeting will take place on Saturday, 16th of May 2009 from 3 p.m. at the Hotel Majestic.

Fellowship for International Understanding through Film Program Brings Filmmakers from Africa and Bosnia Pleasantville, NY

European cinema again becomes the great protagonist of the Spring of films in the city of Ravenna: from the 20th to the 25th of April 2009, it will be the third edition of the Mosaico d’Europa Film Fest : six days of screenings and guests at CinemaCity.

The second part of the Ciné Sans Frontière workshops (CSF), a cooperation project between Latin America and Europe, has taken place in Toulouse from 23rd to 25th of March 2009, during the Rencontres des Cinémas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse. The aim of this project is to facilitate the circulation of the Latino American and European films on the two continents. These workshops have been jointly organised by Europa Distribution, the International Confederation of Art Cinemas, (CICAE), the Association des Rencontres des Cinémas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse and the Festival Internacional de Cine Contemporáneo de México (FICCO), with the support of MEDIA Programme of European Union.

The CC Jury awarded Perpetuum Mobile of Nicolás Pereda. This prize is awarded by the Centre National de La Cinématographie (C.N.C), Mac’Tari, Titra Films, the International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) and Europa Distribution. The CICAE was represented by Emilia Skiba, KINO.LAB in Warsaw- Poland.

The prize Cine en Construcción will allow the winner to benefit from the post production and promotion services.
