"DigiTraining Plus"
MEDIA Salles organizes the seventh edition of the training course "DigiTraining Plus: European Cinemas Experiencing New Technologies" in Helsinki, Finland, from 17 to 21 February 2010.
This initiative, the only one in the MEDIA Programme to focus on the new technologies from the cinemas' point of view, is open to exhibitors and representatives of professional associations and public institutions who wish to prepare themselves for dealing with the digital transition by getting to know the opportunities and risks involved.
The course programme is based on a blend of lectures on burning issues, such as the present position with regard to standards and the availability of digital contents, the identification of business models that have already been tried out or are being adopted in Europe and the prospects for 3D, with visits to cinemas that use digital projection and talks by well-known international professional players.

Challenging Objectives
- • To offer professional players in the world of the cinema, in particular exhibitors, the knowledge they need to weigh up risks and opportunities in the transition to digital;
- • To provide an opportunity to meet and exchange experiences on burning issues such as:
- - How to finance the digital shift?
- - What changes are involved from a technical point of view and in terms of competences and staffing?
- - How to deal with programming in a digital cinema?
- - Does digital make it possible to offer audiences new services and new products?
- - What opportunities does digital yield for European films?
- - What relations should be established with providers of content?
- - Does digital allow for a new type of movie theatre and new movie theatres?
The contents
- • Lectures by international experts on current issues such as standards, economic models, availability of alternative content and the future prospects of 3D;
- • Screenings, presentations and special events devoted to new developments in the technology and demos of digital contents; •
- Visits to cinemas equipped with digital installations.

Costs & Scholarships
The early bird fee for those who will send the application form within Tuesday 12 January 2010 is 750 Euro, covering tuition, teaching material, accommodation and meals included in the programme.
MEDIA Salles provides a limited number of scholarships to facilitate participation to the “DigiTraining Plus 2010”. To apply for a scholarship please send your request, together with the application form duly filled in, and a letter of motivation. MEDIA Salles will evaluate the requests and contact the selected applicants. The reduced fee for those who will be granted a scholarship is 550 Euro (value of the scholarship: 200 Euro).
The course fee for participants who won’t need accommodation in Helsinki but will participate in the meals included in the programme is 620 Euro. The course fee for participants who won’t need both the accommodation in Helsinki and the meals is 570 Euro.
