State-of-the-Art and Objectives
Arthouses extended all over Europe in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's ; they now account for 4 to 5.000 among the 25.000 cinema screens on the continent. Their position is very different depending on the european regions: organized networks in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland... and mostly isolated cinemas elsewhere. Still, there is in all countries a need for preparing the next generation of art cinemas directors, on markets getting tougher everyday.
The ambition of the "Art Cinema = Action + Management" training is to hand-on on to this new generation the specific know-how (methods, tools, ideas, contacts) for programming, animating and managing an art cinema.
Content
The training consists in a 9-day residential seminar, including theoretical lectures on the market background (economics, law, policies, technology), case studies / master classes, workshops and screenings. The lectures are translated in 4 languages (English, French, German, Italian), the case studies are held in language groups (English, French, German, Italian) and the workshops in English. All trainees will receive an accreditation to the Mostra del Cinema and the short film festival Circuito Off.

National and Regional scholarships
Many European countries offer support to professionals attending European training programmes. This comes from a variety of sources, e.g. national and regional funds, training organisations, ministries, and varies between countries. The CICAE encourages participants to apply for financial support with their national/regional funding bodies. Thanks to inform the CICAE about your application to these funds.
MEDIA countries: The MEDIA Desks located in each country are a very good source of information and advice on finding grants from national funds or institutions (as Office Fédéral de la Culture in Switzerland, Skillset in UK, Dutch Film Fund in Netherlands, Fundacja Polskie Centrum Audiowizualne in Poland...)
All the MEDIA desk's contacts here : http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/media/overview/who/desks/index_en.htm
NON-MEDIA countries: Candidates can ask to the French Embassy of their country to support their participation. Thanks to inform the Cicae if you do such a grant application.
CICAE Scholarships
The CICAE reserves a small fund in its overall budget to contribute towards some participants costs. This is normally used for participants from New MEDIA countries and from countries with no support mechanisms. The CICAE is a non-profit organisation and depends from institutional funding for organising this training, that's why we kindly ask to to explain the reason why you apply for a CICAE scolarship.
Thanks to read the chart bellow before applying:
| Scolarship level | Tariff (€) | Criteria for tariff or Scholarship |
| Non-European resident | 2750 | The higher tariff explains by the non-eligibility to MEDIA funding for non EU citizens |
| European standard rate (no scolarship) | 1600 | Cinemas wich benefit local training funds (e.g. AFDAS in France, Dutch Film Fund in Netherlands, Skilset in UK...) & cinemas > 50 000 admissions/y and good economical health |

Exemples:

A candidate who
- comes from an old MEDIA country
- working in a cinema with economical difficulties
- in a country where no financial support exists
- and stay in a double room,
will pay 900€ and can apply for a travel grant.
According to the MEDIA program guidelines, the CICAE will give out grants in the first place to professionnals who can't benefit from other sources of financing. Professionals benefiting from a national or regional funding are therefore asked not to apply to a CICAE travel or training grant.
