European Training - Presentation
CICAE Training
"ART CINEMA = ACTION + MANAGEMENT" VENICE, San Servolo — From 25/08 to 03/09/08
The 5th Summer University for young managers of arthouse cinemas will take place during the Mostra del Cinema (Venice International Film Festival), on the campus-island of San Servolo. This seminar is a part of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.
State-of-the-Art and Objectives
Art cinemas developed in Europe in the 50's, 60's and 70's. ; they now account for 4 to 5.000 among the 25.000 cinema screens of the continent. Their position is very different according to regions: organized networks in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland... mostly isolated cinemas elsewhere ... still, there exists in all countries a need for preparing the next generation of art cinemas directors, on markets getting tougher everyday.
The ambition of the "Art Cinema = Action + Management" training is to transfer to this new generation the specific know-how (methods, tools, ideas, contacts) for programming, animating and managing an art cinema.
Content
The training consists of a 10-day residential seminar, including theoretical lectures on the market background (economics, law, policies, technology), case studies / master classes, workshops and screenings. The lectures are translated in 4 languages, the case studies are held in language groups (English, French, German, Italian) and the workshops in English. All trainees will be accreditated to the Mostra du Cinema and the short film festival Circuito Off.
